Oil Addition of Broilers under Increasing Cost of Feed Raw Materials

LACHANCE

With the continuous development of feed and animal breeding industry, the shortage of feed resources has become more and more prominent, especially protein feed and energy feed. Therefore, how to widely develop and utilize unconventional feed resources and improve the utilization rate of feed, has become an urgent problem for the feed industry, the total amount of energy feed accounts for more than 50% of the animal compound feed.

The broiler breeds cultivated by modern breeding techniques have the characteristics of fast growth rate and high feed conversion efficiency. Animals have higher levels of energy, protein and other micronutrients in the diet. Especially the energy level, this high energy requirement is difficult to be satisfied just only by its graining feed. In order to meet the rapid growth requirements of broiler chickens, in addition to the use of corn, wheat and their by-products in the broiler diet preparation, it is usually necessary to add oil to meet their energy needs, such as adding 1-3% fat in broiler diets.

The benefits of adding fat to the feed, It can increase the heat density of the diet and reduce the dust in the production process; Improve the appearance, flavor and palatability of the feed; Promote the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin D; Provide a variety of essential fatty acids and so on. In addition, under special conditions such as high temperature conditions, the stress response of poultry can be reduced and the performance of broiler chickens can be improved.

Compared with carbohydrates and proteins, oil/fat is an economical and effective source of energy with high energy. It is 2.25 times of carbohydrates and protein, and has low heat and consumption, so oil is an important source of energy in broiler production. However, the digestive system of broiler chickens is not well developed, and the utilization rate of oil is low. Although the utilization rate has increased with age, however, due to the shorter digestive tract of broilers and the higher amount of oil added, the ability to digest the oil has not reached a high level, according to relevant data, the utilization rate of butter for broilers over 8 weeks old is about 70%. If the added fat is not fully digested and absorbed, it is easy to cause problems such as overdose such as overfeed and diarrhea. Therefore, how to improve the utilization of oil in feed and reduce the harm caused by oil has become the focus of attention in the broiler breeding industry and feed industry.

To solve the problem of the use of oil, it is to improve the utilization rate of oil, that is, the rate of digestion and absorption. The digestion of oil is a prerequisite for the use of oil. Emulsification is the first step in fat digestion. The emulsification can affect the utilization rate of oil in broiler chickens. Adding substances that can help oil emulsification during feed processing is one way to promote oil emulsification. The emulsified oil increases the area with digestive enzymes. Helps digestion of fats, thereby increasing feed conversion and promoting growth.

An emulsified substance is added to the feed to promote oil emulsification. Therefore, it has been approved to improve the digestion of oil by broilers. That including Soybean phospholipids, lecithin, glycerin fatty acid esters, monoglycerides, sucrose esters.  Bile acid is the main active ingredient of bile. It is the only endogenous animal that has the function of promoting the digestion and absorption of fat. It can emulsify fat and increase the contact area between fat and lipase. And during the digestion and absorption stages after the emulsification stage. On one side, Bile acid activates pancreatic lipase, Allow the chyme to be more fully digested in the intestines; On the other hand, it functions as a fatty acid transporter. The combined effect of bile acid in the three stages of emulsification, digestion and absorption of fats and oils,  it can significantly improve the utilization of oil in broilers.  At present, there are many studies reporting that bile acid can increase the weight gain rate and feed conversion rate of broilers and improve the performance and carcass quality of broilers.

In view of the above, research and development of feed additives bile acids, and used it in the production of broilers, can improve the utilization of oil in broilers, improve the growth performance and carcass quality of broilers, thereby saving cost  and improving production efficiency, It is of great significance in the development and utilization of energy feed.
